The Scientific Accuracy of Jurassic Park

jurassic park

We all know Jurassic Park. But what is the scientific accuracy of the famous dinosaurs who roam Isla Nublar? Let’s take a look at the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, and find out.

  1. Dilophosaurus is portrayed being only four feet tall, having an expanding fin, and being poisonous in the movies. Dilophosaurus would originally be six feet tall, with no poison or frill.
  2. Velociraptor is seen without feathers in Jurassic Park. Velociraptor would originally look like a large roadrunner with sickle claws.
  3. Spinosaurus is portrayed as walking on two legs and mostly eating land animals. In reality, Spinosaurus would have walked on four legs, because its hind legs were too weak, and was a piscivore mainly.
  4. Procompsognathus is wrongly named Compsognathus and being way too small, having venomous bites, and living in huge packs. Procomsognathus would measure over four feet tall, non-venomous bites, and most likely was solitary.
  5. T-rex actually had FEATHERS! It may have hunted in packs, too.
  6. Mosasaurus is 84 feet long in Jurassic World. It could only reach up to 50 feet in the Late Cretaceous Period.

Because of all this, we can say that Jurassic Park is not scientifically accurate. We are discovering new dinosaur specimens around the earth, helping the Dinosaur Revolution continue, from where it started as changing ideas about dinosaurs as dumb, slow, and ugly lizards to bright, intelligent, agile, and colorful archosaurs.
