Spooky Stories: Skinwalker

Similar but different to the Wendigo is the Skinwalker. The Skinwalker (Navajo: yee naaldlooshii) is a mysterious shaman that is depicted as wearing animalistic bones and jewelry and can have a mix of animal and human characteristics, usually a wolf. The skinwalker can put on the skins of, turn into, or possess animals in order to kill people that it has a vengeance against.

Yee naaldlooshii are usually shamans or witches who have done dark magic. In modern culture, they are associated with wearing stag skulls, just like the Wendigo, and with killing all humans. The game Skinwalker Hunt mixes the Wendigo and the Skinwalker together, because the monster in it has a stag skull for a head like a Skinwalker, is mangy and wears a loincloth like the Wendigo, and can possess wildlife like the Skinwalker.

Skinwalkers are made most famous by ‘Skinwalker Ranch’ in New Mexico, owned by Adamantium Holdings, formerly owned by Robert Bigelow and before that owned by Terry Sherman. This ranch is purported to be the site of many unexplained and paranormal activities, such as Skinwalkers, UFOs, strange creatures with red eyes that were unscathed by bullets, etc. These tales were told by the Sherman family who used to own the ranch. However, many investigations have occured and no evidence has been found for these occurences, and it is likely that the Sherman family made the story up.

Well, that’s it for the Skinwalker today. I’m gonna be updating on the ‘Successful Jurassic Park Tour’ series…
